NASSAU TO HIGHBOURNE CAY
Once you’ve landed, it’s a short ride from the Nassau International Airport to your sailing yacht, SV OliLuki, where we’re excited to welcome you aboard! Before setting sail to the beautiful Exuma Islands, we’ll have a safety briefing and a yacht orientation to help get you settled in. Then it’s time to raise the sails and head across the Yellow Bank to Highbourne Cay in the Northern Exuma Islands! This passage is roughly 30 nautical miles across the Yellow Bank, which has an abundance of coral heads just below the clear Bahamian waters. Another great treat is snorkeling Escobar’s sunken plane wreck which crashed near the southern end of the island in the heyday of drug smuggling. Your captain will take you via dingy into Norman’s Cay National Park through Pelican Creek exploring the inner bays of the island filled with clear waters and sea life. A great onshore excursion is lunch at Macdufs Restaurant, a shabby-chic resort and restaurant!

SHROUD CAY
Enjoy breakfast with a view in the aft cockpit as we sail south to Shroud Cay, the official start of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. This amazing island features multiple crystal clear rivers and the opportunity to enjoy views of sea turtles, sea rays, mangrove fields and completely private and breathtaking beaches! Enjoy a peaceful ride on the current with paddle boards. Every visit to Shroud Cay deserves a stop at “Camp Driftwood” at “the rapids”, or walk the trail across the island to the plantation ruins from the 1700’s where a gorgeous beach invites you for sunbathing and swimming! An adventure filled day wraps with a delicious dinner and then drinks on the top deck for brilliant star gazing!

WARDERICK WELLS
Your next destination is perhaps the crown jewel of the Exuma Islands, 18 nautical miles south, the island of Warderick Wells and the headquarters of the Land and Sea Park. A visit to Staniel Cay Yacht Club is a must! Enjoy the island music and laid back yacht club bar and restaurant for fabulous drinks and the island famous conch salad and ice cold Bahamian Kalik beers! Bonus morning…instead of the sail north, enjoy a morning paddle boarding and breakfast, relax and get freshened up and fly an island hopper flight with an absolutely amazing aerial view of The Bahamas either to Nassau or direct to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport for connecting flights back home.

There are many options available, such as ASA and other advanced sailing courses, hiring a skipper or captain or booking a crewed charter. What sets your program apart? Our Hands-On Sailing Experience Program is an immersive program that integrates various courses into a comprehensive learning approach. While ASA courses focus on specific skills like sailing, docking and coastal cruising, and emergency courses focus procedures and safety, our program integrates all these topics and more, including weather reading and routing, planning passages, sailing vocabulary, sailing during nighttime, anchoring, mooring balls, boat maintenance, boat ownership, homeschooling and provisioning. Hiring a skipper typically means they navigate the vessel without teaching, and crewed charters allow you to relax without responsibilities. We emphasize education and empowerment. As a family business with five years of full-time living aboard and 17,000 nautical miles sailed, we share our real-world experiences to help you gain the knowledge and confidence to start your own sailing adventures. We also provide post-program support and you will receive a signed USCG Sea Service Form, verifying your experience and time at sea. Most skippers and captains don’t live on their boats, but we do, and we can’t wait to share our passion with you! To see what topics we cover, click here.

We have young kids and are worried we’ll be too focused on them and not on learning. Our flexible itinerary ensures everyone stays engaged and entertained. Turn Your Learning Into an Adventure-Filled Vacation!

“The dreamiest vacation learning to sail our dream catamaran in the Exumas, Bahamas!
If I’m being honest- I booked this trip in November as the kids Christmas present. We have been counting down for it! Until the week before leaving when life hit hard. I honestly wasn’t excited to leave because of all the news we got days before. But there’s no such things as a coincidence when you believe in the Lord… and when I thought it was the worst timing- it turned out to be the best timing and just what our whole family needed ![]()
From anchoring, sailing, boat maintenance, what it truly looks like being apart of the sailing community, living aboard, provisioning and of course visiting stunning waters and remote islands! we truly learned SO much and it was all the confirmation we needed for our whole family that we are going to DO THIS- it’s just a matter of when.
If you’re looking for an amazing hands on sailing experience- I couldn’t recommend the owners, Andy + Maki enough for teaching, learning and fun! Thank you for opening up your home to our wild clan!
We’re back land side
Now it’s operation get my sweet girl 100% healthy, finish renovating this house and then see where the Lord leads next!“~Michelle & Jeremy,FL

“We are getting our boat in a few months and this was a great refresher and we learnt a ton. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. We are so excited to start our new life on the boat.” ~Kelly & Joe, FL

***OLILUKI TIME***We are taking possession of our 2024 L45 March 1. We decided to spend a week on Oliluki in preparation. Bonus, this also counted for our insurance that required 50 hours with a captain.
Gary spent his time with Andy learning all the intricacies of caring for the boat & its maintenance. He learned radar, weather forecasting & mapping, reinforced his sailing, and anchoring skills. I split my time between Andy and Maki. I reinforced my sailing & anchoring skills, and learned radar. I spent a lot of time with Maki. She showed me all of her tricks for storage, provisioning, galley equipment & even clothing tips. She taught me healthy meals that could be prepared in 30 minutes because who wants to be in the galley all day! Although I do have to say, she fed us about every three hours😱
We have chartered for over 10 years and thought we were pretty good going into this. This week proved otherwise. They gave us such a wealth of information!!! I would highly recommend this to anyone purchasing a boat. Andy, Maki, Oliver, and Lucas welcomed us into their home and made us feel like family. They are truly wonderful people. They will be lifetime friends. We cannot wait to see them on the East Coast this year. Thank you Oliluki! ~Roni & Garry, AZ

“For years, I have dreamed of purchasing a sailing catamaran and cruising the Caribbean. When I saw the OliLuki video, my wife and I jumped at the chance to spend a week learning to sail on a 45-foot catamaran with Andy as our teacher, Maki as our fabulous chef, and their charming twin 13-year-old boys, Oliver and Lukas, as crew.It was an incredible experience that we will never forget! Andy was an excellent teacher who was patient, knowledgeable, and passionate about sailing. He taught us everything we needed to know to become confident sailors. Maki’s cooking was delicious and nutritious, and she always made sure that we had plenty of food to keep us going throughout the day. Oliver and Lukas were a joy to be around and were always eager to help out with anything we needed. The catamaran itself was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed for our sailing adventure. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves sailing and is considering the cruising lifestyle. Thank you, Andy, Maki, Oliver, and Lukas, for an unforgettable week on the water! ” ~Jack and Kim, FL

“5/5 – Bottom line: yes, you should book your experience!
WONDERFUL PEOPLE: Andy and Maki are welcoming, genuine, real people. We instantly began what will undoubtedly be a longterm friendship with them. They are both patient, kind, and try very hard to provide guests with the highest value experience possible.
PLEASANT STAY: Their 2019 Leopard 45 is immaculately clean in both the main areas and all the nooks & crannies! The aft cabin with full ensuite was comfortable, spacious, private, well ventilated, with plenty of room for our things. The meals provided were varied and absolutely delicious. We have no allergies, nor restrictions, but they are more than willing to accommodate if those apply to you.
CUSTOMIZED EXPERIENCE: Months and weeks prior to boarding SV Oliluki, we coordinated via email and video chat for what type of experience we were looking for. With a wealth of live- aboard experience, the SV Oliluki crew is more than capable of tailoring an experience for your specific needs. We requested, and got to: night sail, hoist our partner in SV Oliluki’s boson chair, practise anchoring, and discuss all sorts of options for systems, gadgets, cleaning products, etc that are good for live-aboards. We are happy that SV Oliluki doesn’t sacrifice safety; specifically the weather was not cooperating with our request, therefore we did not cross the Gulf Stream from Florida to the Bahamas. Without hesitation, we highly recommend the SV Oliluki Sailing Experience! ” ~Alison & Mike, Canada

“Dear Andy and Maki, we just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for the wonderful experience we had on board the Oli Luki last week. Despite the less than stellar weather, everything about the experience surpassed our expectations. You are great (and patient) teachers, and your passion for the cruising life shines through in all that you do. We thought it might be awkward living in a relatively small space with four complete strangers, but you are such gracious hosts–and your sons are so delightful–that we felt at home immediately. And Maki, how you make such great meals in such a small kitchen is still a bit of a mystery, but you have clearly mastered that skill! We wholeheartedly recommend the experience to anyone who is curious about cruising!” -Lisa and Rich, Indiana
